Cyanotype

Have you ever heard of cyanotype? Neither had we!

On Monday, Bethan from Creative Schools came back in to do some more art with us. First we had to design the layout of the things that you wanted on your paper. There were butterflies, leaves, branches, letters and flowers that we could choose from. We then moved our designs onto the special blue sun paper and put a layer of acetate on top. We clipped them together so the designs wouldn’t move. We put our designs out in the sun for 5 minutes. The paper started to change colour but the designs on the paper blocked some of the sun. We took the design off the blue paper and soaked the page in water for 2 minutes, then we left them to dry. In the end the area of the paper that we had our designs on stayed white and the rest of the paper went blue. This was very cool and we’d love to try it again!
